The Dote 8: Halloween and a crazy week back
Turns out vacation in Mexico is more fun than...just about everything else.
We’ve been back from Mexico for a week and I feel like it absolutely flew by. My Mom came out to visit and thank goodness she did because she could give the kids lots of attention while Han and I felt like we were struggling to get back in the groove of normal life. Halloween, school events, car problems (again), and some end-of-month craziness at work made everything feel like it was moving too fast.
We were Harry Potter for Halloween!
Lydia: Hermione; Elliott: Harry; Quincy: Hagrid; Lawrence: Ron; Brighton: Dobby; Oakley: a mandrake; Han: Professor Sprout; Me: Dumbledore
Han and I (but mostly Han) believe strongly that Halloween costumes are meant to be home made and creative. Han gets 100% credit for this years’ (and most years) costumes and as always, I’m super impressed with her work.
Elliott wore his costume to school and managed to lose both his glasses and his scarf, so we had to borrow from neighbors to make up for it haha.
There were so many Harry Potter costumes in Lydia’s and Elliott’s classes at school! I wonder if it’s a recurring costume around that age because that’s when parents start reading the books to them.
I wish I had time to write more, but I’ll have to save it for another week. Mostly sending this to just keep in the habit.
I’m behind on finishing and publishing my second essay for my writing class, so I’ll probably be sending that at some point this week. Turns out that good, thoughtful writing takes a really long time to produce. There’s really no shortcut. I find that both daunting and validating at the same time.
Hope you all had a great Halloween. Tell me what your costume was!
